WIRE-D

concept
Wire-d is designed to emphasise human interactions and emotional connections thanks to a visual and physical connection between a minimum of two human beings. Wire-d is a physical device that connects two human beings, as a matter of fact it is designed to be utilised simultaneously by two people. It is made by two handles, one for each of the users, and a central interconnecting core.

Design PROCESS
Wire-d is the result of both a conceptual and a manufacturing experiment. Starting from a material experimentation process I decided to utilise heat shrink tubing as one of the main materials for the final object. As a matter of fact, it’s only thanks to this experiment that I was able to fully understand the material’s own limits and potentials.

IDEA GENERATION
By applying this freshly gained material knowledge to one of my hybrid area of interest that mixes human interaction and technology, I was able to conceptualise the idea towards a specific hand held analog device.

concept DEVELOPMENT
Once the idea was defined, I started to sketch and design the actual object. After various number of tries, I also decided to experiment with different manufacturing processes and I came up with the idea of mixing traditional hand made processes with digital 3d modeling. This is the reason why I manually carved both the handles from a piece of aluminium and 3d printed the central interconnecting module.
