CRYPTUM

A NEW WAY OF BREATHING
In a future in which environmental issues and pollutions steadily grow and affect our world, viruses and diseases will spread quicker, leaving humans to find solutions to protect themselves. Cryptum wants to be an elegant solution to this problem.

CONCEPT
This project was developed for EPDA - European Packaging Design Association - contest, with the idea of “imagining a future packaging for the year 2050”.

Anti-viruses, shelters, food, packaging, these could potentially become the bare essentials that we’ll need in a future in which pollution neglects the life as we know it now. Faced by a reality in which humans need a device to filter toxins in the air, Cryptum was designed as a portable and elegant solution to solve this issue.

DESIGN
Cryptum is composed of a main concrete container and a breathing device stored in it. The container acts both as a durable packaging as well as a cleaning system to keep the device clean and ready for use, thanks to an internal chamber filled with colloidal silver. The breathing device is designed as a gold septum with rubber nose pads and activated carbon inserts. Gold was chosen for its malleability and elegance, while the activated carbon inserts filter the air from the pollutants present in it.

awards/exhibitions
With Cryptum we won first place of the EPDA PACKAGING DESIGN AWARD in the product design category and presented our project at the Drupa Fair 2016 in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The project was then exhibited at the 2016 NOOSPHERE XX1 Pavillion at Triennale International Exhibition in Milan, Italy.
