PROCEDURAL COFFEE
HYBRID DESIGN concept
The project emerged from the analysis of the act of drinking and preparing coffee. For the majority of people, this traditional formality still represent one of the most crucial moments of the day. With a hybrid crafting approach, we designed a monumental coffee cup holder to show the importance and relevance of this mutual convention.
DESIGN
The concept was developed around the idea of utilising 3d printing to create an object that was not produceable in any other way and mould and cast an already existing one. After deciding to create a new object on the shape of an existing coffee cup, we started to sketch the basic shape of the cup holder. Inspired by the viscosity of the fluid, I modelled a final 3d version of it to be 3d printed. While printing, I set up the original cup for the moulding process. We created a silicone mould of the cup and used it to cast a few resin versions of it. In the mix, we added a black powder to create a unique effect, similar to coffee powder. The final result is an elegant and organic object that both functions as a cup holder and as a container for other objects.
